Manual Lymphatic drainage (MLD)
Compression Therapy
Light touch and “clearance” techniques to assist the movement of lymphatic fluid for the affected limbs and the entire lymphatic system. MLD support joint relief for Lipoedema suffers as the drainage massage reduces the collection of fluid built up in knees & ankles.
This treatment has a 3 step process;
1.Daily bandaging to reduce fluid and size of limb(s)
2. Fitting for garment
3. Maintenance support and refitting
Exercises prescription
Measurements & assessments
Individualised exercises to support the fluid movement and reduce the incidence of rebound refill. Also identification of “do’s & don’ts” for your personal situation & lifestyle.
During your initial appointment, assessments of the “at risk” or affected limb along with measurements will be taken and kept with your records. These will assist us to monitor your progress and allow for accurate ordering when and if a garment is purchased.
Education & skin care
Education by way of handouts emails and discussions can cover daily living and any lifestyle changes needed. Skin care and awareness for infection. How to spot infections. Avoid infections and when to seek assistance.
Garment prescription & fitting
This can be accessed as part of the compression therapy or as a “one off”. If you already wear compression garments and feel its doesn’t fit right or have been wearing your current garment for over 6months (they have a lifespan of 6months) you can have a fitting. This involves measuring, ordering and education on “donning & doffing”, putting on and off.
